Nanette Wylde / Remembering Elephants

Nanette Wylde's hybrid-print artist book "Remembering The Elephants" on Awagami Factory Bamboo washi -- with PreNeo Press.

For a printmaker combining both digital and traditional processes finding the right paper can be a challenge. Making books with these hybrid prints further complicates the search, as paper that is the same and printable on both sides is needed. Awagami's Bamboo paper is an excellent choice. The paper holds up well to soaking after digital pigment printing, and subsequently carries oil-based inks well. After the ink dried from intaglio and relief printing, I found the papers to flattened appropriately when misted and weighted in blotters. The ability to use the same paper in different weights for cover and text block is a nice plus.

Awagami's Bamboo paper is soft, elegant and strong. I was particularly eager to work with it as bamboo is considered sustainable. I like being able to make choices which can be helpful for the planet, and which provide a high quality, tactile aesthetic to my books.
